When considering the United Kingdom as a potential holiday destination, most people tend to focus on London. Home to the iconic Big Ben and a bunch of other historical buildings, the UK’s main city also entices [1] its tourists with 170 different museums, as well as world-class food and cultural experiences. That being said, London isn’t for everyone, and there are plenty of other destinations around the UK that attract their own set of tourists.
Have you considered anywhere else in the UK for your next holiday destination? Here are some ideas:
1) Bath: One of Southern England’s primary holiday destinations since Roman times, Bath is a beautiful town filled with old buildings and, of course, hot springs (hence its name). Easily reached on a train from London, Bath offers all the historical pull without the overwhelmingness of London life. Plus, it boasts itself as the home of one of the UK’s all-time most famous authors: Jane Austen.
2) Scottish Highlands: Truly remote, you can come here to lose yourself within untouched mountains, lochs, and beaches. This destination would suit tourists wanting to experience nature; it’s also home to Britain’s biggest national park, the Cairngorms.
3) Pembrokeshire: Located in the south of Wales, enjoy a taste of all the UK’s beautiful coastline has to offer, as well as its quirky, historic towns and old fishing villages. Plus, you can check out the UK’s smallest city, St Davids, surrounded by stunning coastal scenery.
These examples are only a few of the different places the UK has to offer outside of London. As a place with a long history and diverse landscapes, the UK is full of places of historic importance and stunning scenery; check our “National Trust” for some more inspiration.
This being said, London has plenty to offer in itself and can accommodate travellers looking for both fast and slow paces of life. Aside from its art, museums, and skyscrapers—the things that make for a city teeming with [2] life and culture—London also has a plethora of [3] glorious green spaces. Try places like Hyde Park, the Royal Botanic Gardens, and Kensington Gardens and experience a new side of London. “Londoners” value their green spaces, and a visit to any of London’s parks should give you an idea why.
Is the UK on your bucket list? If so, where would you most like to visit?
