Paradoxical, yes, but true. She met 13 of the previous 14 US presidents, worked with 15 different UK Prime Ministers, shook hands with 6 South Korean presidents, lived through World War II and the Cold War, watched the moon landing, and enjoyed awesome technological developments that rewrote the fabric of humanity. She also presided over the Troubles in Northern Ireland, Brexit, adultery and scandal within her family, and other turmoil, but managed to keep the world’s opinion of the Royal Family generally high.  <span style="font-family:Georgia;color:#000000;background-color:transparent;font-weight:400;font-style:normal;font-variant:normal;text-decoration:none;vertical-align:baseline;white-space:pre;white-space:pre-wrap;">Without her, one has to wonder how the United Kingdom—and the world—will react to new changes. <span style="font-family:Georgia;color:#000000;background-color:transparent;font-weight:400;font-style:normal;font-variant:normal;text-decoration:none;vertical-align:baseline;white-space:pre;white-space:pre-wrap;">On top of the fact that a new Prime Minister has just <span style="font-family:Georgia;color:#000000;background-color:transparent;font-weight:700;font-style:normal;font-variant:normal;text-decoration:none;vertical-align:baseline;white-space:pre;white-space:pre-wrap;">taken office [2]<span style="font-family:Georgia;color:#000000;background-color:transparent;font-weight:400;font-style:normal;font-variant:normal;text-decoration:none;vertical-align:baseline;white-space:pre;white-space:pre-wrap;">, the Bank of England is planning on raising interest rates, and ongoing economic struggles, Her Majesty’s death could spell enormous political and economic trouble for the United Kingdom. Scottish politicians have already called for the abolition of the monarchy and renewed hopes for an independent Scotland, while Irish politicians have also urged the Irish government to begin preparing for a unified Ireland. How this goes, only time will tell, but the Queen’s passing could transform global politics which, for Elizabeth II, is <span style="font-family:Georgia;color:#000000;background-color:transparent;font-weight:700;font-style:normal;font-variant:normal;text-decoration:none;vertical-align:baseline;white-space:pre;white-space:pre-wrap;">on brand [3]<span style="font-family:Georgia;color:#000000;background-color:transparent;font-weight:400;font-style:normal;font-variant:normal;text-decoration:none;vertical-align:baseline;white-space:pre;white-space:pre-wrap;">. <span style="font-family:Georgia;color:#000000;background-color:transparent;font-weight:400;font-style:normal;font-variant:normal;text-decoration:none;vertical-align:baseline;white-space:pre;white-space:pre-wrap;">Anyone over nine years of age has lived through great institutional transformations affecting heads of state, and the Queen’s death is just a reminder. In 2008, Barack Obama became the first Black president in U.S. history, and in 2013, Pope Benedict XVI resigned, making him the first Pope since 1294 to voluntarily resign, and marking the first time in centuries two Popes (Benedict and his successor, Francis) coexisted.
